footprint
Kit and Heather are well aware of the global
cost the garment industry has on our environment. We are trying to implement
"cradle to cradle" standards in our design and creative process. While
this is quite a large mountain to tackle, we have started with:
1. Keeping it local.
We try to keep everything within a 500 mile
radius. All our clothing is made locally by us. Our first choice is to always
partner and use local businesses.
2. Fabric and sourcing.
New Fabrics: We look for quality and pure
fibers thus 100% natural fiber can return to the earth after its use and 100%
manmade can be recycled to have a second life. Locally grown organic is ideal
but not always accessible, so we still prefer conventional locally grown than
organic grown on a mass scale overseas.
3. Rescue and Recycled.
We pride ourselves in recycling fabrics and
rescuing industry remnant treasures from becoming landfill. We enjoy re-making
used sweaters and garments to give them a new life. All of our packaging is made
out of recycle paper.
4. Minimizing waste.
We try to eliminate as much waste as possible.
Scraps used for accessories, buttons, facings before anything is thrown away: we
try our hardest to find it a home of use and purpose.
5. Travel.
We travel to search out local artisan and
cultural fabrics. This does not help the environment but it does help support
local artisans and encourage cultural values on a global scale. We always look
to support local far trade, not mass market practices. |
